Mark Butler established the financial planning & wealth management firm that is Butler Financial in 1996, after working for and training extensively with American Express/IDS. He is senior financial advisor, relating directly with firm clients on matters of planning, investments, wealth transfer, and overall sound financial decision-making. Mark holds a B.A./Philosophy (CU/Boulder) and M.A./Psych (Naropa Univ.), and is currently ensconced in the study of economics and behavioral finance. During the past fifteen years he has served as director on several boards of educational, religious, and financial not-for-profit organizations. Mark has recently completed a book on the psychology of money, Zen Money Blues, published in June 2009.
Kristi Sawers is paraplanner of the firm, offering critical client liaison and communication along with key support in office operations. She also provides a high level of administrative and organizational services to our wealth management clients. Prior to joining the Butler Financial team, Kristi owned her own consulting company, specializing in business, financial, and administrative services. She is a graduate of the Syracuse University School of Business.
James Lengyel is research and trading assistant for the firm. He has strong experience with trading platforms and strategies these past three years, particularly with regards to equities and options. James provides critical liaison with the firm's institutional relationships to Schwab and TD Ameritrade. Currently, James is studying political science and economics at Metro State College in Denver.

Maria Butler is publicist of the firm. In that capacity she oversees content creation for firm publishing projects, company newsletters, company website, and specific development projects. She brings a wealth of communications experience, having been a Montessori educator for much of the past 20 years. Prior to that, she worked as publicist for a publishing firm (Ten Speed Press) in Berkeley. Maria received her B.A. in English Literature from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.

David Stein serves on the firm's investment committee, providing macro-economic perspectives and analysis. He is a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Sloan Business School, and an executive for Liberty Mutual in Boston. In 2002, he joined Butler Financial, with solid experience in investment research for Brownson, Rhemus & Foxworth, an investment advisory firm in Chicago. David served as financial counselor till 2007. David holds degrees in history and psychology (Univ. of Wisconsin/Madison).

Peter Cook serves on the firm's investment committee, also providing macro-economic perspectives and analysis. He is a graduate of Stanford University Graduate School of Business. At the Jewel Companies of Chicago and then with Charles Levy & Co, Peter worked for 25 years as VP Store Operations, VP Growth & Development, and CFO. He’s spent the last 15 plus years as a private investor and business advisor. Peter also holds a degree in Political Science (Univ. of New Hampshire).
